Distribution: Introduced from Europe as an ornamental and occasionaly escaping; uncommon in Washington.

Habitat: Disturbed soil near gardens.

Flowers: June-August

Growth Duration: Annual

Description:
General:

Glabrous annual, the stem simple or branched above, 2-6 dm. tall.

Leaves:

Leaves alternate, bipinnately dissected into narrow, linear segments, the lower leaves sessile.

Flowers:

Flowers showy, regular, single on naked peduncles; sepals 5, greenish, rounded; petals 5-10, red, narrowly oblong-oblanceolate, about twice the length of the sepals, spreading; stamens blue, numerous; pistils numerous.
